About This Study

Children and young adults of all ages, races, and ethnicities from across the US have joined RECOVER to find answers to questions about Long COVID, including:

  • Why do some children and young adults get Long COVID and others don’t?
  • What symptoms do children and young adults feel when they get Long COVID and how long do they feel sick?
  • How does having Long COVID affect the physical and mental health and development of children and young adults as they grow?

RECOVER has learned a lot about how Long COVID looks in children and young adults. RECOVER published an important paper on the common symptoms some children with Long COVID may feel. Since then, we've published even more papers on what we've found in this cohort. This is just the start, and your help is leading to more discoveries in the future.

What’s Next – The Second Phase of the Pediatric Study

In the second phase, we will continue to follow children, teens, and young adults for 2 more years – whether they had COVID-19 or not. This includes children whose mothers were pregnant during or after 2020. This group will help us better understand:

  • How Long COVID affects the body, brain, and other organs in children and young adults of different ages, and how symptoms may change as they grow.
  • How long children and young adults may have Long COVID, and if symptoms get better, stay the same, come and go, or get worse.
  • How Long COVID in children and young adults may be linked to other long-term health conditions, including health problems that are new or get worse.
  • How having COVID-19 during pregnancy might affect children as they grow.

Is your child experiencing long-term effects of COVID-19, called Long COVID?
