The first phase of the RECOVER observational adult cohort study ends October 31, 2025, marking an important milestone in RECOVER’s research toward understanding, diagnosing, preventing, and treating Long COVID.

More than 14,700 adults dedicated their time and effort to the first phase of the RECOVER adult cohort study, which ends on October 31, 2025. These participants completed more than 1.3 million tests, nearly 126,000 surveys, and over 43,000 study visits, helping RECOVER researchers publish several papers on Long COVID in adults in leading journals. Hundreds of other scientists are also using RECOVER’s data to plan new studies and make more discoveries about Long COVID.

We want to express our gratitude to the adult participants for making this critical research possible. This first phase has helped shape future research, guide important decisions, and advance knowledge about Long COVID.

The Next Phase of the Adult Study

RECOVER is committed to learning more about how Long COVID affects adults over time. The next phase of the adult study will begin in 2026, allowing researchers to continue following participants for several more years. Check back here on the Stay Informed page for updates on the next phase for adults. This only affects the adult study; the RECOVER pediatric and tissue pathology studies are ongoing.

We couldn’t have come this far without you. Thank you again for being a part of the RECOVER community and helping move Long COVID research forward. For more information, read our frequently asked questions.
